Healthcare & Health Plans

Better digital access starts with patient confidence.

Patient portals, telehealth, and digital check-in create more value when people feel confident using them. BTATL helps older adults and other digitally excluded populations build the practical skills to navigate these tools safely and independently.

What gets in the way

  • Portal enrollment is counted as adoption, but an enrolled patient who never successfully logs in is not using anything.
  • Telehealth appointments fail on the technology, not the medicine — a camera permission, a link that expired, a password nobody can recover.
  • Patients who cannot manage digital channels fall back on phone lines and in-person visits, which are the most expensive routes.
  • Health-related scams specifically target older patients, often impersonating providers or insurers.

How the BTATL ecosystem supports digital access in healthcare

Healthcare organizations can draw on multiple parts of the BTATL ecosystem to help older adults and other digitally excluded populations build confidence, get support, and stay safer as more healthcare services move online.

What an engagement looks like

A digital independence pilot

A defined patient population and a defined set of skills — joining a video visit, using the portal, reading a secure message, recognizing an impersonation attempt. Delivered as structured sessions with practice on the patient's own device, then measured against the questions agreed before the pilot started.

What you receive

  • Structured sessions focused on the specific tools patients must use
  • Practice on the patient's own device
  • Plain-language materials patients can keep
  • Scam and impersonation guidance relevant to healthcare
  • A written summary at the end of the pilot

Measurement and reporting

  • Self-reported confidence before and after, across the skills covered
  • Participation and completion
  • Participant ratings
  • Any clinical or utilization measure would be defined, collected, and validated by the healthcare organization — not by us

Boundaries and requirements

What we will not claim, and what has to be true for this to work. We would rather be clear now than impressive now.

  • We provide technology education. We do not give medical advice, and Ask Chet does not replace a clinician.
  • We do not access patient records, and the base engagement is designed to run without protected health information. Any data handling would be agreed in writing first.
  • We make no claim about clinical outcomes, appointment adherence or cost savings. Those would have to be measured and validated by the organization.
  • Ask Chet gives general educational guidance and does not replace medical, legal, financial, emergency, law-enforcement or qualified technical professionals.
